There are very few differences between an online college and university when it comes to academic standing. An online college and an online university both have standards of excellence to uphold. They each have degrees which they hand out to students who complete a certain course program. So is there any real difference between the two?
There is, very slightly and as the years have passed, the lines have become blurred even more. An online college or college for that matter used to only give out certain types of degrees, for example, a college might have been known as a liberal arts college and given out only liberal arts degrees. A university or an online university contain many colleges under the framework of the school and can hand out many types of degrees for the course programs that students complete. They could be liberal arts, they could be scientific in nature they could be medical degrees.
Online College and University Programs as an Extension
An online college or online university might just be an extension of the actually university or college itself. The traditional four year buildings have also adopted online programs because they are easier for non-traditional students to use and also earn degrees from. The online college and university still offers the same excellence that students in person get, they just get theirs through an online version of the program. Not all programs will be offered online, but some will be or at least some classes to certain programs will be online.
There isn’t a difference in the cost of an online college versus an online university. They will both have per credit hour tuition rates that will be comparable to others around the country or the world. The rates are based upon their expenses and what they offer students in return. Cost is also based on the price of the professors, the reputation the school has and the operating expenses for all of the support staff who work in and around the facility for the program.
Online College and University Comparisons
You shouldn’t look at a college or a university in itself, but what they offer in terms of programs, flexibility and costs for their students. Do they have a lot of counselors on hand to answer student questions when they arise, at any time of the day or night? Do they offer sessions with financial aid staff members when you need options for payment of the classes? The online college and university should have a lot of options, but they should also have staff on hand to answer your questions and be a front for the school itself in order to make it a better place for all to study and be successful at.
